The reigning VGMA Artiste of the Year, Dennis Nana Dwamena better known as KiDi has opened up about his health, life and loss in a new single titled “Not Ok.
The powerful reflection on what he’s been through in the past few months touches on themes that are sure to resonate with listeners.
In the track, the singer-songwriter gets personal as he opens up about his own struggles and battles rumours that he was down with a stroke during his hiatus.
The track begins with a sombre string melody before KiDi sighs and enters with his soulful vocals, singing about the difficulties of dealing with health issues and life
The first verse features the poignant line, “If I tell you say I’m okay the I lied, Everything I feel in my heart and soul, Oh as you see me so I’m smiling but I’m dead inside” a sentiment that is sure to strike a chord with anyone who has ever struggled with their mental health.
Throughout the song, KiDi explores the idea that life is precious and fragile and that we should be kind to people especially when we don’t know what they are going through.
He sings about the issues of his liver and struggling with depression and staying indoors, offering a raw and emotional portrayal of grief.
The song’s release is particularly timely, as he announced his comeback a week ago with a video of him in good health and drinking from a cup.
“A little under two months ago, I made the painful decision of cancelling my tour to take care of my health that included taking time off social media. In that time, I have been overwhelmed by the outpouring of love from family, friends, fans and the brands i work with. You all made me feel incredibly loved in this difficult period and I cant appreciate you enough,” he posted
Many people around the world continue to struggle with anxiety, depression, and grief, making KiDi’s “Not Ok” a critical and relevant addition to the musical landscape.

Earlier in February, The “Touch It” singer announced on that he was cancelling his North American tour due to health issues.
In a statement on his verified social media account, the artiste said: “Hi my loves, it is with a very heavy heart that I announce the postponement of my Golden Boy North American Tour. I understand how incredibly disappointing this news is for a lot of you. The excitement that so many of you expressed about coming out to see me on this tour was heartwarming and I was really looking forward to this experience together.
His label boss, Richie Mensah in a tweet on March 16 pushed back against claims that Kidi had suffered a stroke calling it “clickbait”.
The producer and artiste manager asked fans of the 2022 Vodafone Ghana Music Awards (VGMA) Artiste of the Year to ignore the rumours on social media.
“KiDi hasn’t had a stroke. Ignore the rumours and the clickbait,” he tweeted.
