Award-winning R&B singer Ari Lennox has been forced to delete all her social media posts sharing her experience of Ghana, after some social media users criticised her over them.
Lennox, who received a Grammy-nomination in 2019 for Best R&B/Soul Female Artist, was Ghana to perform at the Afrochella festival held on December 28, 2021. She took the opportunity to tour parts of Accra, and shared her experience with her fans around the world.
The ‘Pressure’ singer wrote about Ghana “wow it’s a rare and good feeling to consistently wake up with peace and happiness. I really owe that to Ghana.” In another post, Lennox talked about crying during her first visit to the beach and aching for her ancestors. “I didn’t feel alone. It was a surreal experience.”
The singer added that she felt it was nice to get away from depression and anxiety. However, these posts generated unexpected reactions from some Twitter users. Some found it corny that Lennox, like many of her colleagues in the diaspora who travelled before her, sought a connection with her ancestors.
Other social media users outrightly laughed at her posts.
