Ghanaian reggae-dancehall artiste, Samini has been featured in the official Theme Song for the Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) due to be held in Cameroon in January 2022.

The “My Own” hitmaker joined a host of other prominent and promising musicians on the continent to create the track which will serve as the tournament’s official theme song.

“Collectif Africa Smile” composed the song “African Smile.” Three songs were submitted prior to its release, with “AfricanSmile” receiving 86.32 votes, edging out singer Grace Bethel’s by 1.61 votes. Gorge Samba and Taty Eyoung’s collaboration came in third place with 78 votes.

Salatiel, Timi Dakolo, Assia, Hakim, Jaylann, Rayen Youssef, Tukkiman, Imilo Iechanceux, and Mylmo are among the other African singers featured in the 5-minute song.

In addition, the official mascot for Africa’s biggest showpiece has been dubbed ‘Mola,’ which refers to a friend or relative in Cameroon. The 2022 AFCON will begin on Sunday, January 9, 2022.
